Latest from Ica, Peru

I spoke with the research/relief team about ten minutes ago. They had an answer to prayer in that the school administrators allowed them to bring all vehicles inside the walled school property. They have also allowed them to set up tents inside and to use this place as their initial base of operations.

The team reports that the church building there is in shambles. There have been several thousand dollars of damage to that one structure.

Tomorrow the plan is to give each family of the church a relief package for themselves, as well as one to give to an unsaved family to minister both evangelistically and holistically.

The team thinks they may head back to Lima tomorrow to refit and head out again next week.

Thanks for your continued prayers.

Kevin, we love you and Pam and Melissa. We are praying for all of you in Lima, and all over Peru. Please let us know what, if anything we can do.

Thanks, preacher. We will let you know. If your church wants to help with donations, they can send it to the IMB, earmarked "disaster relief for Peru." We can then channel it from here.

Kevin: I have the following up on my blogspot. You are bound to get a ton of traffic on this site. As they say, if my bullet fits your gun...click copy and paste!

As of Friday 17 August 2007, a team of International Mission Board and Peruvian Baptist Convention workers are headed to Ica, Peru to assess the damage caused by the massive 8.0 earthquake. As of this writing there are over 500 confirmed dead and 80,000 people homeless.

I have been with IMB for over 7 years and have been impressed with what we can do in terms of meeting the physical needs of people. I can say without reservation that every penny given through our Disaster Relief office will go to disaster relief in Peru or somewhere of great need. By going to http://resources.imb.org/index.cfm/fa/donation.worldhunger.cfm you can give immediately to our worldwide disaster relief program. Missionary salaries are paid through other funds. The gifts given at the above web site go ONLY to help the people hurt by disaster.

Kevin:

I don't think we know each other, but I am an IMB board member and also on the SA Committee. I am praying for you and for all those affected by and ministering in the aftermath of the quake.

I hope to meet you in January.

Hershael,

Thank you for your prayers. We are confident that this will turn into a great door for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
